What does whimsical, vintage, cake and cat have in common? - The Fairy Tale Fair, 10th August 2013

The whimsical Fairy Tale Fair of Brighton is putting on another fair after its successful first year and this time they will also be celebrating their first Birthday to boot.

Taking place on Saturday 10th August 2013, 10:30am – 4:30pm it will be held at Patcham Methodist Church, Ladies Mile Road, Brighton.

There will be over 35 stalls selling a range of handmade crafts, including jewellery, soaps, chocolate, knitted items, cute characters, cushions, cards, prints, accessories, vintage style items, hair pieces, bags, decorations and beads. There will also be face painting, craft workshops, Alice in Wonderland themed cakes, summer time treats with tea and coffee served on vintage china and an RSPCA raffle.

Started by the enterprising and creative jewellery maker Claire Montgomery of Cat-a-Cake Creations, the Fairy Tale Fair has taken off online as well, with a blog that has had over 35,000 views and Facebook and Twitter generating over 3,000 followers combined.

Keen to find out more I asked Claire a few questions and this is what she said:

How many fairs have you done in the last year?

4 fairs. We started last August as a debut fair and since then have had a Christmas and Spring fair. The one on the 10th with be our 4th and mark our first Birthday.

Where did the name come from?

I wanted a name that was a bit different and stood out. I spent ages trying to think of something. I also wanted the fair to be aimed at the community and families. I thought fairy tales were something that evokes happy childhood memories for everyone, appeals to children and families, and also represents a whimsical world where anything goes- which basically describes our fair perfectly!

What jewellery will you have on your stall? Will there be any new designs / pieces for people to look out for?

Yes I will have a range of cute and quirky laser cut necklaces, brooches, earrings and more. I have lots of new designs for summer in my new Carousel Collection. This collection is inspired by my seaside surroundings in Brighton and includes ice creams, a Brighton lolly, seagulls, carousel horses, as well as doughnuts. There will also be old favourites on sale including Buddy the cat, and Nigel the sausage dog.

Are there any particularly popular stalls that people should look out for?

Everyone at the fairy tale fair is popular! We make sure we only accept the highest quality stalls and also that we have a real mix of crafts on sale. To name a few to look out for...Hello DODO and their cute and colourful screenprints (they have taken part in all of our fairs!), Mooshpie and her wonderful illustrative creations (she was featured on the homepage of Etsy this week!), I Like Cats and his super cute knitted cat items and many many more!

What will make this upcoming fair 10 Aug special?

It's our first Birthday and we hope to mark it in style! Our stall holders will be really what makes it special - when they turn up and transform an empty hall into a magical crafty wonderland with their unique handmade creations that you won't find on the high street! Make sure you don't miss them- we won't be back until Christmas.

How many are expected?

There will be over 35 craft stalls, craft workshops, a vintage tearoom, face painting and more. We hope to see around 500 people through the door. It's always difficult in the summer when people are on holiday but we hope to get lots of locals, families and visitors from near and far along. We have had 5,000 flyers printed and have been blogging, tweeting and posting like mad so hopefully that has all helped.
